Plate the walls

Decorative plates..something that captures my attention and leaves me speechless as not one but all of them look so pleasing aesthetically that it becomes hard to select one out of many.

I was first introduced to this beautiful art in my toddler stage when my father had bought a beautiful tea set, a Chinese tea set complete with a beautiful circular tray or a plate. My mother took great care of this delicate piece and fortunately it still stays with me. I was always left in awe with its golden rendered border and the two dragons engaged in a conversation from behind the glass display.

One of the favorite pick as souvenirs, decorative plates have the power to add texture, color and pattern to an otherwise plain wall and overall to a room. A perfect balance between woven fabric and a wall tile, one can choose to follow a certain order, a color theme or else add them and plate the memories.. :))

Before you load your plate with all the ‘shoulds’ and ‘have to’s’, think about what would nurture your body..mind and soul. Make room for that on your plate.

There’s a wide choice available in the market and you can enrich your collection with antique, vintage or a brand new plate. If you don’t have immediate plans to hang them on walls, plate stands are an equally desirable way to display them. I recently found stands made out of walnut wood and they can give a run for display to these art plates.

So how do you plan to display them..the choice is totally on the individual. No set rules for them. A cluster of plates of same sizes, overlap them for a new dimension, one can follow a color scheme or just place them with different shapes and sizes. How about a swirl of plates hanging over a piece of furniture. Endless options for your priceless collection.

By hanging old plates and dishes, you can always indulge in enjoying the family heirlooms. And yes!! you can have one of the plates from your home use on display.

Decorating with plates or dishes is an innovative way to add some texture and bring in some drama. So take out those lovely pieces and

happy decorating!!

I am Rohini and having trained as an interior stylist, I have been working in this field for a couple of years. I personally advocate an eclectic style for my home which maintains the flavour of being evergreen, nonetheless I am open to all the styles on board along with the creative beauties that I get to see. Travelling is a part and parcel of my life since childhood and I am glad as it helps me to discover new places, sometimes in a remote corner with hidden artists and some exquisite craftsmanship which I not only try to imbibe in my designs but also try to bring the artist in focus. Design and creativity gives me a sense of constant evolution. Penning my thoughts on travel, life, art, interior design and good workmanship, as and when they appear on my canvas.
