Let’s talk colours

In Paris, everybody is in black! But you know in Ukraine, everybody wears bright colors.

Colours have always fascinated me, I could spend hours looking at a flower or for that matter a butterfly which leaves me bewitched with its colour and patterns, even  moments after it vanishes quickly. What comes first to your mind as you close your eyes, to me a vibrant rainbow which I have been able to spot often in its splendid forms. Colors are magical, though I am in love with whites and blacks but colors are the one which make them more meaningful. A dash of red or a blob of  orange redefine these neutral colors.

Few points to follow while choosing color combinations are context, purpose and personal likes/dislikes of the people who are going to spend time in that space. Apart from these basic factors, what must be thought of on a broader scale is the amount of daylight that comes and rests inside the room, the direction to which the room is open towards etc. These are some of the deciding factors as the colors we are going to use react to all the above factors.

Red : High Visibility, creates excitement, symbol of romance. On the contrary, it can create turmoil.

Blue: A quiet color, easy to use, symbol of stability and balance. On the contrary, can lead to depression.

Yellow: It can be both cool or a warm color, brings in cheerfulness, symbol of gold, intellect. On the contrary, can lead to unhappiness.

Orange: It is a warm and a gay color and is a symbol of sunshine, warmth. On the contrary can lead to fickleness.

Green: Relaxes, induces a mood of meditation, wholesomeness. On the contrary it can lead to jealousy and envy.

Violet: Symbol of nobility, gravity or dignified influence. On the contrary can lead to depression.

White: Ultimate neutral, eternal peace. On the contrary it can lead to darkness, mystery or uncertainty.

Black: Neutral in its approach, trust, sureness. On the contrary can lead to vacuum.

Brown: Composed, moderate, symbol of earth. On the contrary, can lead to inconsequential path.

Colours are quite eminent in our lives. We adorn them, at the same time we are surrounded with them.If we talk essentially about Interiors, colors are strong enough to make us react the way they want us to.It’s important to comprehend colors and their effect as they straightway relates to our lifestyle functioning and overall productivity. Also, to note is that colours affect each other . The way two colors have been used promptly alters the physicality of objects and create optical illusions.

Choose wisely and Happy decorating… :))

I am Rohini and having trained as an interior stylist, I have been working in this field for a couple of years. I personally advocate an eclectic style for my home which maintains the flavour of being evergreen, nonetheless I am open to all the styles on board along with the creative beauties that I get to see. Travelling is a part and parcel of my life since childhood and I am glad as it helps me to discover new places, sometimes in a remote corner with hidden artists and some exquisite craftsmanship which I not only try to imbibe in my designs but also try to bring the artist in focus. Design and creativity gives me a sense of constant evolution. Penning my thoughts on travel, life, art, interior design and good workmanship, as and when they appear on my canvas. The Pink Lotus is a blog where I write about home styling, travel encounters and life memories or experiences...Welcome aboard!
