Embrace the change

I always find it amazing, how at every change of season there is a natural urge to revamp things around.A natural phenomenon but so much related to us directly as our mind is always looking for something pristine. This may call for reorientation of a furniture kept at a place since years,or a few turns and twists that let in some freshness.

Clear the clutter : Clutter free mind is the happiest and the same goes for a clutter free home or office.A perfect time to replenish the energy after dark and grey winters.Remove anything that is not required,as it will only help to clear out the blocked pockets of energy. Stir up ideas for a perfect harmony and nourish the areas that you regularly breathe in.It is equally important to love the spaces as much as you love yourself.A little detachment and let things go that do not serve the purpose. It makes a fair sense to go on and donate things, certainly bring in some lightness both at materialistic and spiritual level.

Go framing : Memories well captured in your phone galleries or that DSLR. Time to put them on walls or within frames.Pictures,a great way to reconnect and re-live the times that have gone by.Let the moments created by you, that is the pictures taken, find their space on walls.I must mention here, play with materials.Explore new materials as well as colors.Metal frames look equally wonderful. They are highly recommended in Feng-Shui especially to prosper one’s career.Change the pictures and frame the new ones.

Fresh wash of colors : No no no, you need not read this as painting of walls.Well, it’s a very good option but generally undertaken over a few span of years. Colors can be added in a very simple manner through fabrics or accessories. A throw or runners spread on table can do the magic. Do give a look at your lampshades too.

The sun is only turning brighter and warmer. The theme of Pantone spring 2015 is ‘En Plein air’ which means ‘in the open air’.Usher in the new season with softer and cooler colors. Out of the declared colors on Pantone list, my picks are ‘Lucite green’ and ‘Tangerine’.

“Soft, cool hues blend with subtle warm tones to create a soothing escape from the everyday hustle and bustle”

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive director, Pantone Colour Institute.

Jugs of flowers : One of my pick is to bring in some fresh flowers .I always have thanked my stars to know, what is it to grow with the gardens full of  blooms.Since, big gardens may not be an easy option, let the spring peek in through the colors of flowers. Faux flowers do equally well in case fresh ones are not available. It’s a delight to have some colors after a spell of greys and blacks.

If you have children at home, it gives you one more reason to embrace the change.Let there be an area coupled with formal settings and rendered with piles and stacks of memoirs of your little ones.Simple repositioning of that long kept furniture or the rugs and floor mats, easy way to change the style.

A little change is always invited.Happy March…Happy decorating.

The Pink Lotus

I am Rohini and having trained as an interior stylist, I have been working in this field for a couple of years. I personally advocate an eclectic style for my home which maintains the flavour of being evergreen, nonetheless I am open to all the styles on board along with the creative beauties that I get to see. Travelling is a part and parcel of my life since childhood and I am glad as it helps me to discover new places, sometimes in a remote corner with hidden artists and some exquisite craftsmanship which I not only try to imbibe in my designs but also try to bring the artist in focus. Design and creativity gives me a sense of constant evolution. Penning my thoughts on travel, life, art, interior design and good workmanship, as and when they appear on my canvas. The Pink Lotus is a blog where I write about home styling, travel encounters and life memories or experiences...Welcome aboard!
